From 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Shoe Bar Houston, a mobile shoe boutique, will be parked next to Hughie’s Tavern & Grille, 1802 W. 18th Street in the Houston Heights. Coryne Rich, the owner of Shoe Bar, will donate a generous portion of sales during the breast cancer benefit to the Hot Tatamales, a local team of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

The Hot Tatamales have teamed up with  Hughie’s Tavern and Grille to raise critically needed funds for breast cancer awareness, prevention, treatment and research.

On Saturday, Feb. 22 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Hughie’s will host a breast cancer benefit on behalf of the Hot Tatamales at 1802 W. 18th Street in the Houston Heights.

Come out to help raise lifesaving funds while enjoying food and drinks, music by Obsolete August, a silent auction, raffle and much more.

Hughie’s will donate a generous portion of proceeds from the sale of food and drinks to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, which funds research as well as programs that enable all patients access to quality care.

We are so grateful to Hughie’s and its amazing owners and staff for joining us in the fight against breast cancer. Also, we’d like to thank you for having one of the best craft beer selections in town and the best country fried steak on the planet!

Breakin’ Boards for Boobs!

A heartfelt thanks to the students and teachers at Kim’s School of Tae Kwon Do. As part of its 20th anniversary celebration, the school hosted a Break-A-Thon on Saturday, Feb. 1 to benefit the Hot Tatamales.

Joining our efforts to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer screenings, prevention, treatment and research, the students collected pledges for each board they broke. There were more than three dozen participants who collectively raised almost $1,800 for the cause.

Hughie’s to host breast cancer benefit Feb. 22

The Hot Tatamales have teamed up with Hughie’s Tavern and Grille to raise critically needed funds for breast cancer awareness, prevention, treatment and research.

On Saturday, Feb. 22 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Hughie’s and the Hot Tatamales, a team of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, will host a benefit at Hughie’s, 1802 W. 18th Street in the Heights.

Come out to help raise lifesaving funds while enjoying food and drinks, music by Obsolete August, a silent auction, raffle and much more.

Hughie’s will donate a generous portion of proceeds from the sale of food and drinks to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, which funds research as well as programs that enable all patients access to quality care.

The silent auction and raffle will include a weekend Galveston getaway, photographs from award-winning photojournalists, gift certificates for local restaurants and businesses and a classic black dress designed by LaTarsha Delmonicole Williams, Houston owner, designer and creative director of Delmonicole Clothing. There also will be artwork and baskets filled with craft beer and premium products from Whitmeyer’s Distilling Co.

Buffy, Oak Forest’s first place cat in the recent Leader Loveables contest, is donating her prizes to the silent auction. The “Cat’s In the Bag” gift package includes everything a cat could desire, plus two bottles of wine with specially designed cat labels.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet author Ronnie Crocker and buy his book, “Houston Beer: A Heady History of Brewing in the Bayou City.” Crocker, a veteran Houston Chronicle editor and writer and Beer, TX blogger, will sign copies of the book and donate a portion of sales to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

Shoe lovers can help raise funds to find a cure for breast cancer while shopping for stilettos and accessories. Shoe Bar Houston, a mobile shoe boutique, will be parked next to Hughie’s from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“Every three minutes, there is a new diagnosis of invasive breast cancer. That means that just during the hours of the Hughie’s and Shoe Bar Houston events, 120 people will be diagnosed,” said Meredith Raine, Oak Forest resident and team captain of the Hot Tatamales.

“We are so grateful to all our local partners who are supporting the Hot Tatamales. Together, we are taking action to raise funds that will help those patients and hopefully one day put a stop to breast cancer entirely,” she said.  “We are all in it to end it.”

The majority of funds being raised for Houston’s Avon Walk for Breast Cancer April 12-13 will remain in the area, benefiting local women and Houston-area breast cancer programs and services.
